Spatial Spectrum Reuse for Heterogeneous Wireless Systems Coexistence

چکیده
Cognitive radio is a means to solve the spectrum scarcity problem by allowing secondary spectrum users to share channels with the primary spectrum users in an opportunistic fashion. However, cognitive radio requires high costs in terms of spectrum sensing and monitoring system complexities as well as potential interference issues to the primary spectrum users. In this paper, we propose a spatial spectrum reuse scheme that arranges the deployments of secondary users far away from primary users so that the coexisting wireless systems on the same spectrum band cause negligible interferences to each other. Our scheme exploits the spectrum utilization characteristics of both worlds, thus eliminates the spectrum sensing or monitoring complexities. Specifically, we study the spatial spectrum reuse approach for the coexistence of the widely accepted and deployed GPRS and WiFi systems, both operating at the GSM 900 MHz RF bands. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is a feasible approach to the spectrum scarcity problem.

A Spatial Spectrum Reuse Architecture and Its Analysis∗
Due to the recent spectrum scarcity challenges, a cognitive radio approach has been proposed to opportunistically reuse the allocated spectrum for efficiency purposes. Different from cognitive radio, which is non-collaborative in general, we propose a spatial spectrum access architecture for reusing the spectrum allocated to standard commercial wireless systems, such as GPRS, in which the secon...

We propose a new approach to solving the spectrum scarcity problem, called spectrum access scheduling (SAS), which allows heterogeneous wireless systems to share the same spectrum band using protocol engineering methods. SAS treats the collection of wireless systems as an ecosystem, and optimizes the system performance by collaborative designs. The key architectural component in realizing SAS i...
متن کاملTemporal Spectrum Access Scheduling for Heterogeneous Wireless Systems Coexistence
The wireless spectrum has always been the scarce resource that creates bottlenecks in communication channels. On the other hand, the channel access scheduling has gone from coordinating homogeneous users to heterogeneous ones, as seen in the recent development of cognitive radio technologies. In this paper, we address the spectrum scarcity problem using a novel approach, in which we proactively...
متن کاملJointly power and bandwidth allocation for a heterogeneous satellite network
Due to lack of resources such as transmission power and bandwidth in satellite systems, resource allocation problem is a very important challenge. Nowadays, new heterogeneous network includes one or more satellites besides terrestrial infrastructure, so that it is considered that each satellite has multi-beam to increase capacity. This type of structure is suitable for a new generation of commu...

Spectrum is a valuable, scarce and finite natural resource that is needed for many different applications, so efficient use of the scarce radio spectrum is important for accommodating the rapid growth of wireless communications. Spectrum auctions are one of the best-known market-based solutions to improve the efficiency of spectrum use. However, Spectrum auctions are fundamentally differen...
